Holy Week Contemplations

Wednesday of Pascha

With every new Holy Week, the yearly reminder is the same of Mary’s righteousness and Judas’ betrayal, the stark dichotomy which we ponder every year. ‘Mary anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.’ (John 12: 3) Let our prayers of the Paschal Hours be like the fragrant oil which we pour on Jesus’ feet.

My Lord Precious Jesus, forgive my weakness and shortcomings, and accept the prayers which we offer to You in our homes this Holy Week. Lord, be with us in our homes for we have trust in Your faithful promises. Give new meaning to the praise which we sing,

"Emmanuel our God is now in our midst, with the glory of His Father and the Holy Spirit." - Paschal Concluding Hymn

As for you O Judas, let my soul mourn when it contemplates your betrayal of the Master. But be reassured O my soul in the Lord’s mercies, for this week we learn that the Lord even accepts the confession of a thief and forgives the wretched denial of the tearful disciple.
